Rosanna Petrozziello, her husband, and her brother Giancarlo Piersabino Favati farm 16 hectares in Irpinia, the cool inland hills east of Naples where volcanic soils over clay and limestone, much of it above 500 meters, give Fiano di Avellino DOCG its smoky mineral edge and long, slow ripening. Family winegrowing here reaches back to the early 1900s; production holds near 100,000 bottles a year. The estate farms organically, treating with copper and sulfur instead of synthetics. Pietramara 2024 is fresh and firm — lemon peel, ripe pear, struck-stone smoke — medium-bodied through a long finish of grilled pineapple and dried fruit.
