Domaine Joseph Roty’s 2018 Marsannay Rouge is a blend of five mid-slope parcels in Marsannay. The 2018 Vintage was a warm vintage which produced a serious, dark-fruited Pinot Noir: unusually deep in color and concentration for the appellation, yet balanced by freshness, silky texture. On the palate, we get flavors of spiced plums, cherries and dark chocolate; while on the nose we get aromas of black cherry, blackberry, dried flowers, forest floor, spice, with a dark floral lift. Which is held together by a medium plus bodied wine that is layered and fleshy, with powdery tannins and a lively, charming profile. We suggest pairing this wine with duck breast, roast chicken with mushrooms, pork loin, herb-roasted lamb, lentils with smoked mushrooms, or Époisses / aged Comté. Its black-fruited, savory profile also suits game birds.
